Buffett had been dealing with Merkel cell cancer, a rare type, for four years before his demise, as stated on his website. This cancer is not common and is associated with risk factors like sun exposure, a weakened immune system, and being over 50 years old. It tends to grow rapidly and can spread to nearby lymph nodes and other parts of the body, such as the lungs, brain, bones, and other organs.

Despite his health challenges, Buffett continued to perform. His last surprise show was in Rhode Island in early July, according to his website.

In 2022, Buffett had to reschedule tour dates due to health issues and a brief hospital stay. Originally planned for the end of 2022, these tour dates were pushed to 2023. In May, he canceled a concert in South Carolina after being hospitalized.

Reflecting on his health struggles, Buffett once remarked, “Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you.”
